Lord Prescott at the book launch

The Governance of China seems like a big task for anyone, and yesterday President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) published a book of that very title in English. The book contains speeches by President Xi over the last 3 years setting out his vision for China, and its governance. As you would expect for a country of 1.3 billion people, it is not a small book.

For anyone who wants to know more about the thinking behind Chinese governance decisions and approaches, it will probably be a must read. Translated into 12 different languages this book will reach out to people around the world.

Notable guests at the London book launch were Lord Prescott and Lord Howe who spoke to share their hopes for UK-China relations. And the Chinese Ambassador to the UK, Liu Xiaoming, echoed what a good year 2015 has been so far for UK-China relations with the Duke of Cambridge’s visit, the UK joining the Asian Investment Bank (AIB), the British Councils’ UK-China Year of Cultural Exchanges and the expected visit by President Xi to the UK this autumn.

For our part, the Royal Society has committed to support Newton Fund grants with China. The next call for Newton Advanced Fellowships will open on 24 June 2015.
