Professor Mark Purnell, University of Leicester What is it like being a scientist? It can be great fun. Going to interesting places to search for or to study fossils, for example, is one of the perks. But nothing beats the buzz of solving a problem that has foxed other people, or the joy of uncovering new information that changes our understanding of something. I am lucky to have a job that includes real excitement. Having said that, its not all fun: collecting and analysing the data that provide the solid foundations of the science can be pretty laborious at times. |
