Professor Ben Murdin, University of Surrey What discovery or invention could you really not live without? My favourite invention is the laser. They are so beautiful, so useful, so surprising and yet so obvious (thanks to Einstein who made it obvious) – the proposal for the existence of stimulated emission is just the symmetric reversal of absorption. I wouldn’t be able to do almost any of the experiments I do now without them. |
